we are proud owners of CHICKENS!
so far we have 3 chickens that are living in our neighbors backyard. me, britt, and barbara are raising chickens for eggs. we all go through so many eggs we thought we would raise our own. we have another 11 coming in may.

the boys helped with the beginning stages of the coop. then barbara and victor finished it up.
we found some free wood and crates on craigslist and bought the rest.
we bring them our veggie and fruit scraps and they have feed and grass to eat.

FIRST egg!

That's so exciting, Ashley! I grew up on a farm and we had chickens for awhile. One summer we had swarms of grasshoppers and the chickens would go crazy over those. The mom chicken would catch one and then peck it but not kill it. Then she would call to the babies and they would run screeching over to her and eat it. The first chicken we got was by accident. She apparently had a run-in with a dog or coyote and left her farm (our neighbors) and moved into our barn. She looked terrible with most of her feathers missing. We named her Henryietta (sp?). Ahh... memories. Actually I think chickens are really interesting. :)

I am so jealous! I've been telling Keith we needed our own chickens for awhile now because we, too, go thru tons of eggs every week. Can we come see them soon?
